Pasta Dryer

When I blogged about my homemade pasta here,  I got many comments about my pasta dryer.  I was looking on line for one several years ago but didn't like most of them.  I wanted something sturdy yet easy to store.  I also wanted it to hold lots of pasta because I never seem to do anything in a small way.

Barry looked a several photos and decided to make me one.  He didn't use a plan - he's good with wood that way.  :)

Here are all the pieces of the dryer.

The two side pieces have a notched top and a single notch for the cross piece.

Here are the top pieces and the cross piece.  Notice how nice and smooth Barry got them all.

This is a closer look at the top edge.

And the bottom.

Here the rack is standing nice and sturdy with the cross piece.

Now fit in the drying strips and you are ready to go!

And here is the finished dryer - all together and ready to go.

I think Barry and I work well together.  I come up with the ideas and he takes them and turns them into reality!

Lucky me!  ;)

Quilts in Saskatoon

When I took pics of the Lillooet Library quilts, I emailed them to several friends who are quilters.  One friend in Saskatoon emailed me back saying her quilt club had quilts on display at the McNally Robinson bookstoreWhen I was last in Saskatoon, I made a quick stop at the bookstore and snapped pics of the quilts.  Since they were hanging from the second floor railing, it was hard to see the details, so instead of showing the whole quilts, in most cases I have shown a smaller piece in more detail.  Enjoy!

Library Quilts

I haven't spent much time in the local library since we moved here but did visit it more often while my cousin, Tina was staying with me.  One day I noticed the quilts hanging over the book shelves and decided I needed to get pictures of them.

I previously showed quilts from our local quilters group here .

I noticed that the quilts worked with the Dewey Decimal system of sorting books in many libraries.

These show 363 - environment and 400 - languages.

523- solar system and 581 - plants

598 - birds and 599 - animals

The neat thing about the banners is that they hang over the shelves of books they represent.

If you are looking for books about gardening or pets, you would look on these shelves.

Parenting and families - look here.

Some of the quilts have additions sewn on to them.  These have jewelry  and tiny quilts added.

These have actual examples of weaving and crocheting attached to the quilt squares.

The librarian I spoke to said it saves many steps by being able to say to someone looking for a book on music to look under the quilt square with the music notes on it.

The quilters have done a great job of picking the perfect fabrics.  Many of the borders also reflect the subject.  Look at the hockey sticks and skaters surrounding the below.

They have used many styles of quilting including applique and piece work.

I spent alot of time admiring the quilts while Tina was choosing books, movies and Cd's.

I hope you are enjoying this walk around my local library with me.

The photos don't do the quilt justice but unless you are coming to visit, it is the best I can do.

Enjoy! ;)

Quilt Show

This year was Lillooet's 4th Annual Apricot Tsaqwen Festival.  During the three days many different activities take place.  The Quilter's Guild holds their annual quilt show for two of those days.  There were so many gorgeous quilts in various styles and colours.  Such talent!  Much skill! and What imagination!  I was not able to include all the quilts below but sit back and enjoy the ones I did.
